SUBMISSIONS OPEN!

Quill of the Goddess is now accepting submissions of poetry and art for our debut issue!

Current Theme: HARVEST

Submissions for the October 2025 issue will be open until midnight (CST) September 1st, 2025.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for experiential, evocative work that illustrates Z. Budapest's famous quote: "The Goddess is alive. Magic is afoot." We want to know how the Goddess shows up in your daily life. How is She part of your sacred rituals and practices? Your work? Your activism? What does She mean to you in a world overshadowed by patriarchy? How does the Goddess inspire you? What has changed in you as a result of your relationship wtih Her?

Please keep in mind the theme of the issue.

Poetry

Any style of poetry is welcome. We are more interested in pieces that are accessible to the reader, rather than those that use overly abstract and obscure imagery.

Personal Essays

We're looking for essays with a clear narrative arc that make a point and show self-awareness or introspection. There should be something at stake in your story. Writing should be tight and focused. Avoid cliches. Show, rather than tell, what you want the reader to experience.

Please edit your work before submitting. Your work will not be rejected for typos, but your submission should be your final draft. Upon acceptance, we may suggest minor edits.

Visual Art

We welcome all styles that depict the sacred feminine in her many forms.

What We're NOT Looking For

We will not publish discriminatory work, political rants, or any work generated by AI technology. Your work must be wholly your own.

Submission Guidelines

We do not charge a reading fee.

Poetry: Up to 6 poems. All poems must have titles. Please include all poems in one document.

Prose: One essay per issue, up to 1,500 words.

Artwork & Photography: Up to 5 works, high resolution (300 dpi). Be sure to include the title of your artwork or photograph in the file name.

Simultaneous Submissions & Withdrawals

We accept simultaneous submissions, but notify us immediately if a piece is published elsewhere. If you wish to withdraw one or several pieces from your submission, please email us directly with the titles of the work(s) you are withdrawing.

Previously Published Work

We do not accept work previously published in an online or print publication. We do not consider work posted to a blog, social media account, or personal website as published.

Publishing Rights

All rights revert to the authors upon publication. We require First Rights, which means that we want to be the first publisher to present your work to the public. If your work is reprinted elsewhere, please note that it appeared first in Quill of the Goddess.

By submitting to Quill of the Goddess, you affirm that you are the sole owner of the work and that the work does not infringe upon any copyright laws. By submitting, you grant permission to the publisher to share the published material(s), and in some cases the contributor's name, image, or likeness, in the publication as well as on the publisher's digital platforms, including through digital mail and on its website and social media accounts, for the sole purpose of promoting the work and/or the creator.

Payment

We are not able to offer payment to our contributors for published works at this time; however, we do promote our writers/artists and their work. Be sure to connect with us on Instagram and Facebook @quillofthegoddess.
